Title: Segerstrom Center for Arts
Artist: Amy Kiang (江趙蘭潤)
Medium: Oil

Story: On Oct 10th, 2014 at 1.10pm., I walked to the parking lot from my office at the Center Tower in Costa Mesa ( 650 Town Center Dr., Costa Mesa, which is next to the Segerstrom Center for Arts). At the entrance of the parking structure, I saw the most amazing clouds in the sky. I was touched by the beauty of the scene, so I used my phone , took a picture and painted it.

To me , it has some historical value: the Arts Center now looks different after an addition in 2015, and my office moved from Costa Mesa to Newport Beach near the Fashion Island last year.
I treasure this painting as well as the good memories.

“EVERY ART PIECE IS A SONG WITH ITS OWN MELODY”

Maria Tu, resident of City of Cerritos, California, was born in Chungking, China, grew up and educated in Hong Kong and raised her family in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Maria showed interest in drawing and painting in her early childhood and began to embrace and fulfilling her love of painting since 1985 when she took lessons from artist George Lin (林卓祺) in Chinese brush painting.

In 2007 she started basic oil painting at ABC Adults School. In 2010 she engaged in learning life portrait painting with artist Ying Liu. In 2012, greatly inspired by artist Hermann Chen’s oil painting, she is experiencing a new aspect of oil painting with great contentment after her retirement from Real Estate business.

Title: 歸, Going Home
Medium: Oil painting 30’x40’

I love painting while I was in elementary and junior high schools. Then life has been busy with family and career, I didn’t pick up painting brushes until 2015 which was one year before my retirement.

Painting boosts self-esteem and inspires people to reach new levels of skill. Painting also produces a relaxing, open environment where artists feel safe to explore their own creativity. The reward of growing and expanding artistic skills creates a sense of accomplishment to me.

Title: Infinity
Medium: ink and watercolor/ Chinese Brush Painting

I started studying Chinese Brush Painting quite by accident with some friends about 10 years ago, when I retired. As my art background was almost completely Western Art, I quickly fell in love with an Eastern Painting style and sensitivity. I soon met Bonny Lay, who I consider my mentor in Chinese Brush Painting, and we are now good friends.
She helped me appreciate the finer points of Chinese style painting, including an awareness of Eastern thought and philosophy.
We have since branched into a wider exploration of art including photography and watercolor. I love Chinese calligraphy, and have tried a few classes. It is difficult since I do not read or write Chinese! I remain though enamored with Chinese Brush Painting, and especially landscapes.

Title: 豁谷深幽 ( misty Mountain)
Media: 水墨山水

I have loved Chinese painting since I was a child. So I started to learn Chinese painting after I retired. Maybe because I love traveling, I also have a passion for landscape painting! It seems that I am also deep in the mountains, enjoying the beautiful scenery!

自小喜愛國畫. 所以退休以後即開始學習國畫. 也許因為熱愛旅行,也對山水畫情有獨鐘! 彷彿自己也深處幽谷,欣賞美景!
